♫ Youth Castles - Hangover Kid You might know Dan Abary through his music project Four Visions, about which I posted one or two times before and which got an honourable mention in my favourite EP’s list. Two days ago Dan released three demo tracks on bandcamp for a new project he’s been working on for some time now. It’s called Youth Castles and sounds completely different from his earlier work as Four Visions. “I have taken a break from the emotional acoustic poetry I tend to write in the winter months—the constant sadness I remind myself of when writing those kind of songs is really taking a toll on me emotionally as a person. I decided I wanted to write stuff that aesthetically is more cheerful and poppy.” Inspired by noise pop and shoegaze tunes from the likes of amongst others Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, Dan is making songs that he wants to “convey a feeling of dreamy space ships flying uncontrollably through waves of emotion”. Mission accomplished. Get the three demo songs for free from bandcamp and grab some Four Visions music as well while you’re there (I can warmly recommend Guises In Film).
